Smile is a screen-time companion made by IdeaBridge GmbH. It blocks apps you choose and opens them again after a short ritual (a smile, a few breaths, or a spoken sentence). This policy explains what the app touches and what happens to it.
What is collected. During the smile ritual, Smile uses Apple's ARKit face tracking (which relies on the device's TrueDepth camera) to read two numeric blend-shape values that describe how raised the left and right corners of your mouth are. These two numbers are the only face data the app ever reads. Smile does not capture, create, or access any photograph, video, image, depth map, or 3D model of your face.
How it is used. These two values are used for one purpose only: to detect whether you are smiling so that an app you chose to guard can be unlocked. The face data is never used for advertising, marketing, analytics, user identification, profiling, training any model, or any purpose other than detecting a smile in the moment.
Retention. The face data is processed live, on your device, in memory, only while the smile ritual is on screen. It is discarded the instant the ritual ends. It is never written to disk, never saved, and never retained.
Sharing. The face data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted, sold, shared, or disclosed to us, to Apple, or to any third party. Smile has no server and makes no network requests, so there is nowhere for face data to go. The optional on-screen camera preview is display-only and is never recorded.
The spoken-affirmation ritual uses Apple's on-device speech recognition to check whether you read the sentence aloud. Audio is processed on your device and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted. The app requests on-device recognition explicitly; no audio is sent to Apple or to us.
Smile uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework to shield the apps you select. Apple's design means Smile never learns which apps you chose โ the selection is an opaque token that only the operating system can read. Your app choices, rituals, schedules, and daily counts are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted.
Nothing. Smile has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking, and no server. The app makes no network requests. We collect no personal data of any kind.
There is nothing to share. No data is sold, shared, or transferred to anyone.
Smile is a self-directed wellness tool for the device's own user and is not directed at children.
